Permanent Care
Navigating the admission process for your loved one into an aged care facility can feel daunting, but understanding the steps involved can help make this
transition as smooth as possible. It all starts with a comprehensive assessment by the Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) to determine your loved one’s
needs and the level of care they require. Once you have this clarity, take the time to explore different facilities. It's important to visit these places to feel the
atmosphere and meet the staff, ensuring you find a nurturing environment that feels right for your loved one. Try to look beyond the fittings and fixtures and
see how happy the consumers and staff are, and how the Home makes you feel. The place has to have the right vibe. When you’ve found the right place,
you’ll need to fill out an application with your loved one's detailed information. If you have chosen Della dale, we may either do a home visit, or a hospital
visit in order to ascertain more information about care needs. This is followed by a financial assessment by the Department of Human Services, which will
outline the costs involved and any subsidies available. By understanding these financial aspects, you can make informed decisions that best support your
loved one’s care and comfort, including which bedroom may be the most suitable / affordable. Once the costs are discussed and agreed upon through a
signed residency agreement that outlines both the services provided and the fees involved, the final step is to help them settle into this new Home where
they will be respected and cared for as a valued member of the community. This new chapter, though filled with change, can also bring peace of mind and a
renewed sense of community for your loved one.
At Della dale, we believe that aged care facilities are here to support families and improve relationships by alleviating carer stress / burnout. Our role in
society is to do the hard “carer” work, leaving space for you to continue being a son, daughter, husband or wife to your loved one in our care.
Respite Care
Arranging respite care for your loved one can provide both of you with a much-needed break and ensure they continue to receive compassionate, professional
care. The journey begins with obtaining an assessment from the Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS), which confirms eligibility for respite care and helps
understand the specific needs of your loved one. Take your time to explore various aged care facilities that offer respite services, visiting them to feel the
environment and interact with staff. This step is crucial to ensure you find a warm and welcoming place that aligns with the comforts and care your loved one
deserves. Once you select a facility, you'll need to complete an application detailing their medical and personal needs. If you have chosen Della dale, we may
either do a home visit, or a hospital visit in order to ascertain more information about care needs. Respite care is partially funded by the government, all you
pay is the basic daily fee. At Della dale, there are no other daily co-payments required - but not all care homes are like us, so best to double check costs from
each place you visit. After all arrangements are finalized, you can help your loved one transition into the facility. Della dale permits the room to be decorated as
much as necessary for your loved one to feel comfortable / like they are in their own space for the duration of their respite stay. You are welcome to start
setting up the room as soon as the room is available. After that, try to relax knowing that your loved ones are in good hands and that this short-term change
will be a positive experience for them. This period of respite care can be a refreshing and rejuvenating time, giving both of you a brief rest from daily routines.
We have no time frames for respite - it can be as short or as long as you need, as long as you have enough respite days remaining. The government offers you
63 days of funded respite in a financial year. Depending on your circumstances / reasons, you can receive respite extensions to obtain an additional 21 days of
respite if needed.

Dementia Care
At Della dale, we understand the unique challenges faced by individuals living with dementia and their families, especially when trying to navigate placement in
mainstream aged care when the person with dementia also has behaviours of concern. Della dale is a “dementia-friendly” space. As such, we do not segregate
consumers with dementia away from the general population in a memory support unit. Our cohort of consumers lies on a spectrum of cognitive impairment, ranging
from mild forgetfulness to more extreme end stages of dementia. Our Home provides a supportive, secure, and engaging environment that respects the dignity and
individuality of each consumer.
Our team of professionals, including psychiatric nurses, understands how to work with challenging behaviours, focusing on creating personalized care plans that
accommodate the evolving needs of our consumers. We prioritize communication, employing approaches that are non-threatening and straightforward when
interacting with our consumers, helping to reduce distress and anxiety. Our team appreciates the utility of both non-pharmacological and pharmacological
interventions. Our goal is always to keep our consumers comfortable—both physically and emotionally. The facility itself is thoughtfully designed with safe, navigable
spaces that promote independence while ensuring the well-being of all individuals in our care.
At Della dale, we also believe in the power of community and family involvement. We offer various programs that encourage family participation and foster a sense of
community among consumers, staff, and relatives. This holistic approach ensures that every aspect of care is covered—from medical and physical needs to emotional
and social well-being, providing peace of mind for families and a quality of life for our consumers that is filled with respect, love, and joy.
Palliative Care
At Della dale, we provide compassionate palliative care that respects the dignity and comfort of each consumer facing the end of their life journey. Our
approach to palliative care is centered around ensuring that each consumer receives individualized attention, focused on managing symptoms and
providing emotional and spiritual support according to their personal needs and wishes.
Our skilled team, including psychiatric nurses, works closely with GP’s, Geriatricians, and specialist services like Eastern Palliative Care to create a
comprehensive care plan that addresses pain relief, symptom management, and emotional well-being. We focus on maintaining the highest quality of life
possible, offering comfort, dignity, and respect to each consumer and their families during this critical time.
Communication with families is a priority at Della dale, ensuring that they are fully involved in the care decisions and supported throughout the process.
We provide a serene environment that allows families to spend quality time with their loved ones, making every moment count.
At Della dale, palliative care is more than medical treatment—it’s about caring for the whole person and their family, ensuring a peaceful and dignified
experience as they approach the end of life. Our goal is to provide a space where emotional, social, and spiritual support is readily available, bringing
peace of mind to our consumers and their families during these profoundly personal moments.
Cost Explain
Understanding the costs associated with aged care is crucial for families and consumers as they plan for care. At Della dale, we strive to provide transparent pricing information for both
permanent and respite care services.
- Permanent Care Costs:
Permanent care at Della dale involves a comprehensive package that includes accommodation, meals, medical supervision, and access to a wide range of therapeutic and recreational
activities. The cost of permanent care is determined by several factors including the type of room selected, the level of clinical care required, and additional service choices. Typically, this
may include a basic daily fee, a means-tested care fee, and an accommodation payment, which can be paid either as a refundable deposit or a daily payment. See below for more detail on
each item.
- Basic Daily Fee:
This fee covers living costs such as meals, cleaning, laundry, heating, and cooling. It is set at 85% of the single basic Age Pension and is the same for all residents, regardless of their
income or assets.
- Means-Tested Care Fee:
This is an additional contribution towards the cost of care that some people may be required to pay, depending on their income and assets. The amount is determined through a means
assessment conducted by government bodies. This fee is in addition to the basic daily fee and covers clinical care needs.
- Accommodation Payment:
This fee covers the cost of your room and can be paid in different ways:
- Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD):
A lump sum payment that is fully refundable when the consumer leaves the facility, provided there are no outstanding fees.
- Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP):
Calculated as a daily rate, this non-refundable payment is an interest charge on any unpaid RAD amount and is paid periodically (e.g.,
monthly).
- Combination Payment:
Consumers can choose to pay a portion as a RAD and the remainder as a DAP.
- Respite Care Costs:
Costs for respite care are typically charged per day and cover all services provided, including accommodation, meals, and involvement in our on-site programs. The government may
subsidise part of these costs depending on eligibility.
- Daily Fee:
This covers the full cost of care and accommodation in the facility. The fee includes support with personal care, meals, and access to all recreational activities.
- Government Subsidies:
For eligible individuals, the Australian Government can cover part of the respite care costs. It is important for consumers and their families to check eligibility and arrange assessments
well in advance to secure these subsidies.
- Optional Extras:
This fee applies if the consumer opts for services beyond the basic offerings, such as take-away deliveries, special outings, or Foxtel in the bedroom. These fees vary depending on the
optional extras chosen.
At Della dale, our team can help navigate these options and support a smooth and transparent transition into aged care.
